Konami expects strong profits
Konami has announced that it expects its earnings for
2000/2001 to reach record levels. The company expects its net profits for the
period to reach 21.7 billion yen (about $178.3 million), up considerably from
18.3 billion yen (about $150.4 million) group operating profit it reported for
the same period last year. A major reason for its increased earnings
expectations is the success of the company's YU-GI-OH duel monsters property.
Konami has sold in excess of 7 million units of game software based on the card
game for such platforms as the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Game Boy Color. The
company hopes to extend that success worldwide by introducing games based on the
YU-GI-OH duel monsters for the Game Boy Color in North America by Christmas of
this year.
